Presentation
The French Biotechnology Federation is an association governed by the French Law of 1901, whose primary mission is to bring together all stakeholders, whether legal entities or individuals, working in the various fields of biotechnology in France in order to foster interactions between these disciplines, create synergies among the various stakeholders in academia and industry, and thereby promote biotechnology in the slow but inevitable transition from a linear economy centered on fossil fuels to a circular bioeconomy that harnesses the renewable resources provided by our ability to manage nature.
The missions
The French Biotechnology Federation (FFBiotech) aims to bring together, foster, and raise the international profile of the biotechnology sector in France.

Promote cross-fertilization among stakeholders from different disciplines and sectors,

Achieve visibility and representativeness at the national, European, and international levels

Foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders to ensure collective visibility and influence national and European strategies

Supporting training in the field of biotechnology

Certify events organized by its members, and any initiative that contributes to the achievement of the Federation’s mission

Executive committee
The Board of Directors
The Federation’s members are organized into five groups, which serve as members of the Board of Directors (BOD):
- Groupe A: has active members in scholarly societies and associations,
- Group B: comprising active members of public research organizations and university federations,
- Group C: comprising associate members representing professional unions and competitiveness clusters.
- Group D: Industrials companies (start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, mid-sized companies, large corporations)
- Group E: Individuals persons (from in the biotechnology sector)
Eight scholarly societies and associations* are founding members of FFBiotech, which already brings together a significant number of scientists in the field in France. The Federation will be funded by membership dues, revenue from its activities (conferences, seminars, etc.), and grants from public entities such as regional governments, the French government, and the European Union.
* the French Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SFBBM), the French Society of Microbiology (SFM), the French Chemical Society (SCF), the Society for Therapeutic Chemistry (SCT), the Club for Bioconversions in Organic Synthesis (CBSO), the French Society for Process Engineering (SFGP), the Society for Biochromatography and Nanoseparation (SBCN), and the ADEBIOTECH association
History
The FFB was founded following a meeting between Adebiotech and SFGP, spearheaded by Daniel Thomas and Pierre Monsan. They observed that French biotech forces are highly dispersed, with little systematic contact between organizations. The goal was therefore to foster interactions among the various French players in this inherently multidisciplinary field and to give this collective sufficient visibility to participate in national and European strategies regarding science policy and regulation.
